WE DEMAND ACCESS

Advocacy campaign and educational spotlight series

The Discovery

We Demand Access is a multi-layered advocacy campaign designed to confront the ongoing lack of accessibility in public spaces. The project serves as both a call to action and an educational spotlight, centering the voices and legacies of disability rights trailblazers.

By moving beyond the household names often associated with disability history, this campaign introduces the public to pioneers like Judith Heumann, Lois Curtis, and Ed Roberts.

The visual identity utilizes a vibrant, high-contrast rainbow palette and inclusive communication—featuring the campaign title in both typography and American Sign Language (ASL)—to demand a world where accessibility is a standard, not an afterthought.

Each poster features a trailblazer surrounded by "We Demand Access" in ASL and print, symbolizing the unbreakable cycle of advocacy.

Creative Development

My creative process began with a rigorous discovery phase, starting with an expansive word list to narrow down the core message of the campaign. This led to a mind exercise where I sketched multiple iterations for each keyword, allowing me to explore the visual intersection of identity and advocacy.

After moving into Adobe Illustrator, as well as InDesign, I established a comprehensive brand guideline, beginning with a logo concept centered on a rainbow fingerprint—a symbol of unique identity and the human touch in the fight for civil rights.

From there, the project evolved into a "spotlight" series. I wanted to move these pivotal figures out of the shadows of history and into the light.
