GREETINGS FROM CALABRIA

Italian travel postcard series

Authenticity & Journey

This is the first of three postcards for Maropati, Italy. I wanted it to feel like something I would want to send or receive from Italy—but I also wanted to add texture so that it felt like it made its way through the international mailing system with all its bumps and bruises.

The worn edges, subtle imperfections, and layered textures give the postcard a sense of history and authenticity, as if it's already been on a journey before arriving in your hands.

Finding the Symbol

Maropati, Italy is a commune, so there isn't much there to base the card off of. I wanted to find a structure that was memorable, relevant, and could be used as a symbol of culture.

This is when I came across Chiesa San Giorgio Martire. It's beautiful, timeless, historical, and has its own story to tell. The church became the perfect centerpiece for the postcard—a landmark that represents the heritage and character of this small Italian community.

I combined photography with illustration and texture overlays to create a design that feels both nostalgic and tactile, honoring the tradition of vintage travel postcards.

The final postcard captures the essence of travel—not just the destination, but the journey itself. The weathered textures and vintage aesthetic invite the viewer to imagine the stories this postcard could tell, bridging the distance between Maropati and home.
